Back from Boston
I have just returned from Boston, where I spent a quite lovely few days. Ostensibly, I went up to drop off my kitty with her rightful [other] owner, since for the next month or so, I will be very often on the road. More honestly, I used that as a delightful excuse to see Tim again, before, well, my month or so on the road. Of course, I will see him again at Bridget's wedding, but without this trip, it was going to be a long haul.
My trip up was quite uneventful. I saw a few of my MIT friends (and attended a few seminars). Other than that, I pretty much wasted time and hung out with Tim. I did spend an evening catching up with my sister. That was really nice. I haven't had a chance to just sit and talk with her about Mom and Dad and how they are coping with Dad's illness. We are both pretty worried about Mom in particular, and it was good to voice our mutual concerns.
So now I'm back. I leave tomorrow, I think, for Baltimore. I'm going to a birthday conference for two esteemed members of my field, and everyone who's anyone will be there. This makes me super nervous, since I am slated to give a talk about one of my recent projects. Talk about nerve-wracking! I gave a practice talk while at MIT to Mark and Tyler, and they gave me some great feedback. I'm still a little unsettled about the prospect of talking in front of that audience in particular...
